Shanna Smith applying henna on teen
Henna can be sometimes tricky to apply, so I wanted to provide some general tips. Also, I have attached my design sheet at the bottom of the page. I do not draw the same design everytime, but it is nice to know that a teen prefers vines over flowers. I am aware that not everyone will be able to provide the same artistic ability, but I let the teens bring me additional pictures and designs. I tell them, "you must have a picture!" Some of the random designs I have drawn in henna are: Broncos icon (Colorado football), Superman emblem, a bear, a sea otter, hearts with daggers, spiders on webs, and manga images. I wish I had taken pictures of these designs, but I am always too busy applying henna to think about these details!
-Create Examples!
Half of the teens will know exactly what they want, but have examples ready for the indecisive teens. Also, it is better to have a standard size set for the designs.
-Do not try to put henna on hairy areas!
The henna will not stain the skin if it sitting on areas of hair. Limit designs to hands, feet, and inner arm.
-The color will darken
The henna paste (dark brown and looks like chocolate) will flake off and leave an orange design. It takes at least 24hrs to darken to its final color. The color will always be darker on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.
