Supplies
Shanna Smith applying henna on a teen
-Henna Paste: four cones for a group of fifty
-Scissors and Tape: to adjust your cone’s tip.
-Paper Towels or Napkins: to clean your cone’s tip
-Sealant: this helps henna stay moist, which means a darker color
-Staff Members or Volunteers (1-2): more than one artist is often needed for large groups
-Design Sheet: teens like to see examples, and it is best to set a standard size
-Movie or Music: provide entertainment while the henna dries
-Other: during one program I offered samples of pomegranate
***I suggest buying supplies from www.hennapage.com. Plus, it is a great general resource!***

Recipe
Design by Shanna Smith
-Henna Powder- 2 tablespoons
-Sugar (or dextrose)- 2 tablespoons (add more in dry climates)
-Lemon Juice- 3 teaspoons
-Tea Tree Oil- 20 drops (give or take on the amount)
-Lavender Oil- 20 drops (give or take on the amount)
-Black Tea- as needed
Mix the ingredients together in a plastic container. Use the black tea to make the mixture moist, but thick like a cake batter. Set in a hot, dark place for 8-12 hours (I use my car trunk). Next, use the black tea to once again moisten. This time it should be thinner like frosting (it will look like chocolate). You can choose to strain the henna through a panty hose, but often times it is not needed. Squeeze into the cones, and refrigerate/freeze to make the henna last longer.
